Coach Werner began running in high school, where he participated in cross country and track.  He continued his running career at Northwood University, specializing in cross country and the 10,000 meter run in track.  He began coaching in 2001 and has led our Pirates to 3 team state championships, 4 team state runner-ups, 9 team regional championships and 15 CMAC championships.  Furthermore, 21 different teams have finished in 16th place or higher at state finals and 31 state champions and 64 all-state athletes have competed for him.  His highest coaching honors to date include being a national finalist for the "Brooks Inspiring Coach" award, winning the Track Coaches Association Coach of the Year award twice and being awarded Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Coaches Association.  When not coaching, his favorite thing to do is spend time with his wife Lisa and his girls, Melanie and Vivian.
